A Beader's Group Tribute

In 1999 an on-line email group was started for those interested in the old, but almost forgotten, art of French flower beading. The making of flowers by stringing beads on wire dates back at least to the time of Napoleon and has been kept alive by individuals from around the world who have discovered this unique art form and are delighted to find others who share their passion. By September 2001 the on-line list had a membership of over 500 members from around the world.

As the tragic events of September 11, 2001 unfolded, members came together on-line to share their horror and sorrow and began asking what we could do to pay tribute to the thousands who lost their lives in Pennsylvania, New York City and Washington, DC.

One of the members suggested beaded flower wreaths be made by members and presented for display at the memorials which will undoubtedly be erected at the three sites. Two of these wreaths have been completed and have found permanent homes. The Pennsylvania wreath is on display at the National Liberty Museum in the heart of historic Philadelphia.

The Pentagon wreath is housed in the Pentagon. While it is not accessible to the public, it can still be seen by all those who work in the Pentagon.

The New York Wreath was on temporary display at the Museum of American Glass at Wheaton Village in Millville, NJ. until September 2006. At that time it was accepted by the curator of the World Trade Center Foundation Museum in New York. When the Memorial Museum is completed at Ground Zero the wreath will go on display there. Until that time, it will hopefully go on display in the Foundation's offices.
