The Versatile Blogger Award

The Versatile Blogger Award

I’ve been nominated by Liv Rancourt for the Versatile Blogger Award!  Wow!  Thanks, Liv, I do appreciate it.  Its always nice to know someone is not only reading my blog, but likes it.

Besides having an entertaining blog, Liv is a published author (hooray, Liv!) of A Vampire’s Deady Delight, now available in both print and ebook editions.  You can check out Liv’s blog and more information about her book at http://liv-rancourt.blogspot.com/

The Versatile Blogger nomination comes with some rules:

Rules
1. Nominate 15 fellow bloggers for The Versatile Blogger Award
2. Add an image of the Versatile Blogger Award
3. In the same post, thank the blogger who nominated you in a post with a link back to their blog
4. In the same post, share 7 completely random pieces of information about yourself
5. In the same post, include this set of rules
6. Inform each nominated blogger of their nomination by posting a comment on each of their blogs

I’m not doing them quite in order (I was never very good at following directions) but they’re all here.  I would have accomplished this sooner, but browsing through blogs to find 15 nominees is somewhat time consuming, as well as a whole lot of fun.  Plus, I almost had the list complete when my computer decided to reboot without telling me, and guess who hadn’t saved their draft.  And no, that was not just a good excuse to start over!

Seven Random Things About Myself

1. I was the first woman to attend the U.S. Park Police Law Enforcement Academy in Washington, D.C. – and the only woman in the class. And if I remember correctly, I was also the last woman to attend the academy. No, I really wasn’t THAT awful. I think ours was the last class before the Park Police integrated their training with the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy in Georgia

2. I love bull terriers. Our family has had two pit bull terriers and my husband and I have had two bull terriers, one a rescue. I don’t have enough kind things to say for those individuals who give of their time, money and emotions to rescue bull terriers and other mistreated and abused animals.

3. I’m an avid reader, which often gets in the way of my getting writing done.  The Kindle has been a saving grace at our household.  We were running out of room for ourselves and print books.  Now I’m happily filling up my Amazon cloud space and have even converted my husband to Kindle reading.

4. I like to do French Flower Beading, and have several beaded flowers in a 9/11 memorial wreath that was made and assembled by members of a flower beading group I moderate on Yahoo.  It hangs in the 9/11 Memorial offices in New York now and will go on public display when the Memorial is completed.  There is also a wreath on display at the Pentagon and one honoring Flight 93 at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia.

5.  My husband and I have enough movies on DVD we could probably start our own video rental business.

6.  I love helicopters.  I often claim my husband gave up flying for a living after we were married so he wouldn’t have to teach me how.  Marriages have been lost over less, and I’m a person who has trouble chewing gum and walking at the same time.

7.  I like lizards and snakes.  Some day, I’d like to have an iguana.  My husband says that’s the same day he moves out.

  1. Jami Gold says:

Aww, thank you for the award, Helen!

And I had to laugh at your husband’s reason for not wanting to teach you how to fly. As one of the founding members of the #KlutzClub on Twitter, I’m very familiar with being unable to walk and chew gum at the same time. (I’ve tried both stick shift driving and motorcycles…not pretty. :) )

  2. Thank you so much for the award!! I had the same problem with running out of room for books (I still do); my nook has definitely helped!! :-)

  3. tmso says:

I’m afraid of helicopters. They’re noisy, dangerous and look like a huge alien insect!

You’ll have to convince me why they are a good thing in the universe. ;)

Congrats on the award, and thank you for adding me to the list!

    • admin says:

You’re absolutely right – they’re definitely noisy, dangerous and look like some kind of alien insect, but in the hands of an experienced pilot, like my husband, they can do amazing things. I might not like them so much if I’d flown with someone else, because they are a rather fragile flying machine. My experiences with them were at Grand Canyon, where I was a Park Ranger and my husband flying for a Park Service contractor. Lots of search and rescue, plucking people from strange places they’d hike to and get stuck, looking in places where airplanes couldn’t go.

  4. laird sapir says:

    Thank you so much Helen!

  5. Cindy says:

I was a Parkie too! Not Law Enforcement, but still… That’s quite impressive about being the first woman in the academy. And I thought it was tough as a firefighter (at times)!

    • admin says:

I did the firefighting training, which was enough! That’s doggone tough work. I did later on work as a time keeper on fires, which was close enough to the fire lines for me. What Parks did you work in?

  6. Sharon Clare says:

I love your seven facts, Helen! French flower beading? Wow, never heard of it, but it sounds beautiful. I have to use my book reader more often. My book shelves are over-flowing too.

    • admin says:

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog and to comment. French flower beading is one of the things I do intend to write about soon. Its an old art, but not well known, and I’m always amazed at some of the creations turned out by beaders I’ve become acquainted with.

  7. Sherry Isaac says:

    Helen,

I am with you on avid reader… and the interference it inflicts upon my writing time. I started keeping a list of books read around 2005, and fell off the list wagon last year, along with reading less than a third than I had the year before. The good news: I wrote a lot more.
This year I am back on the wagon, having read 3 books this month. My goal is 2/month. Without diminishing writing productivity. That spells TV. Wish me luck.

  8. Margaret says:

Thanks so much for the award Helen – after my encounter with a Tiger Snake out in the bush the other day I definitely don’t like snakes!
